Dental Implants / Restorations
Many patients choose implants to replace a single tooth, several teeth or to support a full set of dentures. Implants are posts that are surgically placed in the jaw, where they function as a sturdy anchor for replacement teeth. When you choose an implant, Dr. Anthony usually plans 3 phases of treatment:
- Placement of the implant – Dr. Anthony works with local specialists who surgically place the implant into the jawbone.
- The healing process – An implant is strong because bone actually grows around it and holds it in place. The new implant must be completely integrated, sometimes taking a few months, before your replacement teeth can be attached.
- Placement of the restoration – For single tooth implants, Dr. Anthony custom makes a new crown for you, based on size, shape, and color to blend with your other teeth. Dr. Anthony can also make implant-supported bridges or dentures to fit your mouth. These replacement teeth are attached to the implant posts.
Bridgework
If you are missing one or more teeth, it may be difficult to chew, speak or smile. Even the loss of a back tooth may cause your mouth to shift and your face to look older. Fortunately, Dr. Anthony can discuss many solutions to replace missing teeth. A bridge is bonded into place and can span a space where one or more teeth have been lost. Dr. Anthony will review the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of bridges to optimize your appearance, and dental health.
