TEETH WHITENING

There are many reasons that your teeth may become discolored or stained. First, there are two different types of stains. Extrinsic and intrinsic.

  • Extrinsic- When the outer layer of the tooth known as the enamel becomes stained from foods, beverages, and tobacco products.
  • Intrinsic- When the dentin or deep inner structure of the tooth becomes stained yellow or gray.

So, what are your options for teeth whitening treatments?

The only way to remove stains from your enamel is through whitening treatments. That is to say, restoring your teeth back to their natural shade of white or beyond. As a result, your smile will be whiter and brighter.

At home – A variety of different options are available for at home whitening. What you gain in convince however, you may lose in effectiveness and experience some inconsistency.

  • Bleaching Strips
  • Bleaching Gel
  • Bleaching Pens
  • Take Home Bleaching Trays from Dr. Anthony
  • Whitening toothpaste

Professional In-office – At the office of Leslie B. Anthony, DMD we offer Phillips ZOOM! whitening treatments. This whitening system can significantly brighten your smile in a single office visit. This is a great option if you are looking for fast, consistent results. This treatment takes 2-3 hours in the office and the results are immediate.

Teeth whitening is not dangerous or harmful to the teeth but may lead to some extra sensitivity after the treatment. When you leave the office, you will be given custom fitting bleach trays.  These can be filled with take-home bleach gel and worn for an hour or overnight to boost your whitening as needed.
